Gege Akutami, the mastermind behind the popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen, has announced that the series will be concluding within the next five chapters. This news comes just weeks after the conclusion of another long-running manga, My Hero Academia.
The official Twitter account for Jujutsu Kaisen shared the announcement, stating, “Jujutsu Kaisen will reach its final chapter in issue 44 of Weekly Shonen Jump, which will be released on Monday, September 30th.” Since its debut in March 2018, the series has spanned six-and-a-half years and 273 chapters.
In a video posted on Shonen Jump’s YouTube channel, Akutami expressed his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support throughout the series’ journey. He acknowledged the challenges of crafting a satisfying ending but assured readers that he is working diligently to deliver a finale that will live up to their expectations.
Jujutsu Kaisen follows the story of Yuji Itadori, a high school student who discovers the hidden world of Jujutsu Sorcerers and their battle against cursed spirits. The series has been steadily building towards its conclusion, with Akutami confirming last month that the current Shinjuku Showdown arc would be the final storyline.
The manga’s immense popularity is evident in its sales, exceeding 90 million copies worldwide. The accompanying anime adaptation has also achieved global success, even surpassing One Piece as the most popular anime according to some metrics. The upcoming season, which will cover the ‘Culling Games’ arc, is expected to be released in 2025.
